Welcome to the campaign to STOP the plans to build a new housing estate on the A406 at Wilmer Way. These plans are starting to go in to planning and it is vital that all local residents register their objections NOW if we are to prevent this going ahead.

The plans, a copy of which can be viewed here, are to build 118 of homes in place of the existing 23 houses in the area by the new bridge with an additional 39 homes planned for the area adjacent to Pevensey Avenue. The plans include a six storey tower block (on the corner of Wilmer Way and A406 overlooking Broomfield School) and a six storey block (on the corner of A406 between Ollerton Road and Pevensey Avenue). A private application for a separate three storey block of eight flats has also just been approved on appeal for the same area bringing the total for this small area to 164 new flats. In addition, there are plans to develop all the way along the A406 to Green Lanes with 128 properties planned for opposite Livingstone and Moffat Road together with more developments at the Green Lanes/A406 junction.
The existing houses are all owned by Enfield Coucil and Notting Hill Housing Trust. Notting Hill Housing Trust want to build these flats in preference to refurbishing the existing family homes. This will result in an enormous number of people moving into an already under-resourced area. Parking provision is inadequte with only 60% of the properties provided with parking spaces. Parking is already a problem for residents at the A406 end of most roads between Brownlow Road and Pevensey Avenue. If these flats are built the pressure will increase substantially leading to parking problems within the whole area. The local schools are already oversubscribed with primary school admissions set to rise over the next few years.
Residents in the area have put up with under-investment and neglect for years. Recently the disruption caused by the road works has caused further stress. What we need now is to see the houses restored and some care and attention given to our part of the borough. Some landscaping and some trees would be very welcome as would some local amenities. What we do not need is for this small area to be targeted with solving Enfield's housing problem.
If you are concerned PLEASE write and object NOW - see next tab for details
These applications will all go in separately with only a handful of adjacent properties notified by the council. The 'public' consultation consisted of a one and a half day exhibition with just a few roads notified by leaflet. This will COMPLETELY CHANGE this area and it is outrageous that local residents have not been informed. Notting Hill Housing Trust claim that local residents shape everything they do and that they work with the community. If you feel this is no the case, please write and tell them so.
